We came across La Mano Verde, a vegan restaurant in Uhlandstraße, a few months ago, and had been meaning to try it out. Prompted by our time in Berlin running out, last night we finally went there for dinner and immediately wished we had gone there sooner so we could go back time and time again.

Vegan fine dining might sound like an oxymoron, but Jean-Christian Jury proves it isn’t. The exquisite presentation of the food suggests that whoever is behind it is French. Jean-Chrisitian, who’s from Toulouse, aims to change the image of vegan and raw food and make Berlin known for vegan cuisine. He worked in London for eight years and speaks fluent English, and has published a book (in German). You can see him in the video on the restaurant’s website. All the ingredients are organic, as are all the wines, beers and spirits. I picked up a leaflet about courses run by the Roh-Akademie which teaches how to produce raw food and present it exquisitely: http://roh-akademie.de/
Here is what we had. Three of our dishes were gluten-free. I now wish I had asked the people at the next table if I could photograph their food as it was very delicately and beautifully-presented.
