Arminius-markthalle

Another market, but this time indoors. As it snowed a bit today (but didn’t lay), it was much more comfortable in the market hall than shopping out of doors. This was my first visit to the Arminius market in Moabit.  Sitting next to the entrance, an accordianist dressed as Father Christmas was playing Christmas music. A window cleaner passed me on his bicycle as I was walking from the U-bahn to the market, and parked his bike in the entrance, along with his beautiful dog in the trailer on the back, and all his tools hanging on his bike. A sign welcomes you to the market in many languages. Unlike any other market I’ve visited, Arminius has its own little brewery. There are also workplaces for some craftspeople, with a potter at work on her wheel. Children have a play area, and there is a large Christmas tree. Many kinds of food are available to eat in the market hall, including traditional German meals, burgers, diverse cakes, fish, and Vietnamese dishes. I had a coffee and Linzertorte made of spelt flour. As you can see from my pictures below, the market sells the usual range of everyday food: beautiful breads, cheese, fruit, vegetables, fish and meats. There are even curly sausages! Some beautifully-bound hardback books are on sale for 1 euro each at a second hand book stall which also sells lots comic books and paperback “Krimi” (detective) novels. There is even a “Gebetomat” where you can listen to 300 prayers from different religions in 65 different languages.
